10 TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE VALUE TEAM MEETINGS

Over the years I have identified 10 tips for leading or being an effective value team member that I would like to share with you now: 

  1. Share all information with your team members using visuals (overheads, slides, storyboards, etc.) to clearly state the facts and graphically tell your story or state your case to promote clear communications.

  2. Always give handouts of your Project Reports to complement your visuals to insure that everyone understands and comprehends the information you are presenting

  3. Participate in discussions by asking good questions on the tasks and content of the meetings.

  4. Support and build on proposals made by team members, rather than tear them down.

  5. Make decisions by consensus, if not total consensus, rather than voting on all proposals.

  6. Acknowledge others’ ideas by summarizing what has been stated.

  7. Respect and acknowledge emotions, don’t condemn.

  8. Be aware of “hidden agendas” and power plays that can sink your ship before you even get it afloat.

  9. When team members ramble, domineer and have frequent side bar conversations, be firm but friendly when you address them.  And use your team to deal with these awkward people. 

  10. To avoid conflicts.  Confirm agreements.  Clarify areas of disagreement.  Break conflicts down. Aim for consensus if not total agreement.
