Stages of Value Analysis Team’s Lifecycle
Greetings,
It would
be natural to think that once you form a value analysis team or
multiple teams that they will mature at their own pace and that your
job is finished. Nothing could be further from the truth!
As with
individuals, a value analysis team’s lifecycle is not a single state
along a solitary path, but a long series of growth spurts leading to
maturity and then unfortunately to decline. All VA teams follow
this path, even if they behaviors and attributes lead you to believe
otherwise. Here are the four stages of VA lifecycle that we have
observed training, coaching and facilitating VA teams over the last
23 years:

It might
take months, years or even decades for your VA team(s) to move
through all four lifecycle stages, but it is inevitable that they
will. Just like every major league baseball team experiences every
few years, no team stays on top of their game forever. All teams go
through these four lifecycle stages and then they need, at some
point in time, to be reorganize, rebuild and then reborn into an
even better team. It’s just how life and business works!
For
instance, one client of ours when their VA teams reached the DECLINE
STAGE has restructure, refined and re-energized their supply value
analysis program three times over the last seven years. Each time
this client has saved even more money then their VA team’s previous
reincarnation. If they wouldn’t have done this restructuring, in my
opinion, their VA teams would have finally hit the wall on savings
