Did You Know...?

That Value Analysis Was Developed Back In the 1940's After World War II as a Way to Find Lower Cost but Higher Quality Alternative products and methods. This was Due to the Lack of Material Resources At The End of The War.

Savings Beyond Price -Weekly E-Zine- August 23, 2006

President & Chief Value Strategist

Greetings!

Engagement, Engagement, Engagement…

These are the most important words I can think of to describe the commitment needed for your team or committee members to enable you to have huge and plentiful supply chain savings.

Almost every day I hear from supply chain professionals that their cost management team or committee members are not contributing, are bored, passive, or worse yet, aren‘t coming to meetings at all.

This isn’t their fault, it is yours…

It’s your job to keep your team or committee members fully engaged and committed to your savings programs. One way to accomplish this is by having them act as project managers for your projects giving them full authority and responsibility to make decisions on the products, services and technologies you are buying.

This way they will have opinions, and be proactive and make your job a lot lot easier than it is now.

Your Partner in Supply Chain Savings,

Robert T. Yokl

President & Chief Value Strategist

Looking Beyond Price To Create A Quantum Leap Forward In Your Supply Savings

“ 96% Of Supply Savings Today Is Based On Price, Standardization and Sourcing, Which Is Diminishing Rapidly For Most Healthcare Organizations”

I don’t think I need to tell you that holding on to your price savings is allusive, fleeting, transitory and at best brief.  Think of price savings as if you were trying to hold onto a greased pig and you will have the picture I want you to see in your minds eye.

If you don’t believe me just look at how much our latest energy crisis is increasing your prices this year.

The best news I can give you is that you can hold onto any and all of the utilization savings that you achieve because they will be rock solid, and permanent, if you look beyond price for them.

These new “Savings Beyond Price™” can become a reality for you when you.

1.                Have a Roadmap

No important trip or journey has ever been successful without a roadmap to point the way.  That’s why it is so critical to have a Strategic Supply Chain Plan to guide your every step along the way. This is because, as it was once said, “Activity without planning is a dangerous, wasteful and costly endeavor”.

2.                Get Aggressive

Don’t wait to be told by your management to make more savings happen beyond price.  Be proactive in searching out utilization savings before you are pressured to do so.

3.                Create A New Culture

Adopt new ways of doing business, like Supply Six Sigma, that will create a new culture of waste avoidance and search for efficiencies and conformance to requirements.

4.                Leverage Technology

With the right technology you can uncover your utilization misalignments quickly and painlessly.  Without leveraging technology you could be lost in the wilderness and never find your way.

I know that price savings are an easy and quick way to demonstrate your value to your healthcare organization, but what are you going to do when inflation (as it is today) eats into your price savings and leaves you nothing to show for your efforts?

It’s About Time! My advice to you is that it’s about time for you to think about looking beyond price to create a quantum leap forward in utilization savings for your healthcare organization.
